The following is a list of common plants found in and around most households and their effects and symptoms. This is in no way a complete list of plants poisonous to cats but provides a general outline of the most common plants that are poisonous to your pet.
1. Aloe—acute diarrhea
2. Amaryllis—stomach and intestinal upset manifested by vomiting and diarrhea
3. Azalea—vomiting, diarrhea, in-coordination, cardiovascular collapse, coma, death
4. Cactus—punctures, skin infection
5. Caladium—nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, shaking head
6. Chrysanthemum—vomiting, diarrhea, depression, drooling, loss of appetite
7. Creeping Charlie—stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps
8. Daffodils—upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea
9. Dieffenbachia—Affects central nervous system
10. Easter Lily—All parts of the plant can cause kidney failure
11. Hydrangea—stomach pains, vomiting, weakness
12. Ivy—excitable behavior, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea
13. Marigold—mild mouth irritation, stomach pain, diarrhea, possible drooling
14. Mistletoe—ingestion of berries can cause vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, blistering in the mouth
15. Philodendron—difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, shaking head
16. Poinsettia—Ingestion of berries can cause blistering in the mouth, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea
If your cat exhibits any of these symptoms or if you think your pet may have been poisoned from any of these plants, have him/her examined by a veterinarian immediately!
